When we renovated our back lawn some years ago, we employed a “controlled burn” of the dead grass in 2-3’ areas and then wet down and raked the lawn before top dressing, overseeding and fertilizing. We did the same in our front lawn and used SeedSuperstore’s 50/50 crepping red and fine-bladed fescue blend with spectacular results. You get more smoke from a barbeque grill: we’re not sure why the alarmist fuss. It’s apparent not many know how to properly renovate a lawn this way for superior results. Controlled burns in forests actually helps improve soil and prevent wildfires. Ask Gavin. Maybe not ask Gavin.
